Facilities

Give me your ideas for how we set the equipment up. How much space do we need for the rebuilding operation? For storage of tubes and supplies? How should it be laid out?

Financial Reports

I'll be posting financial information on the project here from time to time.

We have had $3,340.33 donated via PayPal. In addition, we've received $1,150 by check. After PayPal fees of $102.72, we have a balance in the fund of $4,387.61. 46 people have donated to the fund. We have received several donations over $100, including one for $500 and one for $300.

A list of donors can be found on our website:

Other Considerations

What are other things we need to think about, such as insurance, fire risk, etc.?

Market

What tubes should we consider rebuilding? What do you the the market might be - number of tubes per year. How much do you think that collectors would be willing to pay for tubes?

Costs

If you have information about the costs involved with rebuilding, please share it. What materials are involved? What do they cost? How much gas is used in to heat the glass and run the oven? What are the electricity costs?

Introduction

Hi Eveyone,

I've created this blog as a place to gather and exchange information on CRT rebuilding. This will be a place to share your knowledge and experience, to ask questions, and to help formulate a plan for using the equipment that has been donated by Scotty at Hawkeye. The goal is to eventually rebuild tubes at the Early Television Museum.

Before we can do that, we need to know if it is practical. I hope that through this blog we can gather the information to decide whether rebuilding CRTs can be done at a cost that will appeal to collectors.

I welcome your comments.
